When it comes to routine maintenance, you should schedule service for your heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system every year. Regular maintenance prevents the kind of situation where your system has a small flaw that goes unnoticed until it causes your HVAC to break down. Rather than needing to deal with an emergency breakdown (that will cost you emergency prices), routine maintenance can help stamp out fires before they start, both literally and figuratively speaking.
If you need to sign up for preventive maintenance, our team at Ambient Edge can put you on a schedule so you never have to worry about neglecting your system. Give us a call at 833-226-8006 or send us a message online, and we will help you take good care of your HVAC system.
A Day in the Life of Routine HVAC Maintenance
When one of our technicians stops by for your annual maintenance visit, he will run a series of tests to ensure your system is running efficiently, cleanly, and, above all, safely. Our goal is to make sure that your HVAC system will function properly until our visit again next year.
Routine maintenance saves you stress, time, and money. You do not have to worry as much about a costly repair sneaking up on you — especially during our otherwise busy times when we might not be able to get to you as quickly. You can also enjoy saving money every month on your utility bill when your system does not have to work twice as hard to do the same job.
Air Filters
Even if we replace nothing else on your HVAC system, we will more than likely replace your air filters. This is because they are one of the easiest things to replace, and yet one of the first causes of major headaches. And it’s a shame because it is an easily preventable problem.
A dirty air filter does not allow air to flow through the system properly. As such, dirt either builds up in the system or becomes unstuck at some point and clogs up the works. This can and will cause your system to break down, sometimes irreparably. And this is not good for your health because it ultimately causes indoor air pollution. This can be bothersome at a minimum and, at its worst, dangerous.
Once we have replaced your filters, you should clean them every week or so. It depends on how often you use your unit. You should replace them every 60 to 90 days, aiming for the lower end of the spectrum if you have pets. Aim for the higher end for those times when you do not use your system as often, like between seasons.
Cooling System Inspection
When we inspect your air conditioning system, our main goal is to make sure all of its parts and components are in working order. We will not leave until we feel confident your system can easily take on those dog days of summer. We check everything from the belts and motors to coolant levels.
If the coolant needs filling, and it more than likely will, then we will add more. We check all parts, from largest to smallest, because if even one valve fails, your whole system could break down. Your air conditioner’s electrical system is also incredibly important because one wire’s failure could lead to a house fire.
It may seem small, but we also check, clean, and calibrate the thermostat. If you are using even one more degree than you need to, then your system is doing unnecessary work, which ultimately leads to money lost and energy wasted.
Heating System Inspection
From there, we move on to your furnace or boiler inspection. We give a once-over of its exterior to make sure nothing is amiss, and we inspect the ventilation system to see if we need to make any repairs. As we clean the inside of the furnace or boiler, we also inspect it for any parts that are damaged or worn out.
We measure the furnace’s electrical system and its output. We also check all interior parts, including the blower, motors, ignition, and switches, to make sure everything is doing its job.
And, just like your air conditioner, we will check, clean, and calibrate the furnace’s thermostat. Something else important we inspect is your furnace’s ventilation system to check for carbon monoxide leaks, which can be fatal.
