If you’re interested in scheduling an energy audit for your home or business, you may be concerned that it could seriously set back your schedule, particularly if you’re scheduling it for your business. This is why it is good to know upfront that an energy audit typically takes between 3 to 4 hours to complete.
However, a lot of this depends on the size of the building being audited, and the number of appliances, doors, windows, etc. to take into consideration. It goes without saying that the larger the building is, and the more things the auditor needs to check, the longer the assessment will be.
At Ambient Edge, we have years of experience performing energy audits, and we use that experience to ensure we are quick yet thorough. The last thing we want to do is take up too much of your time. Plus, isn’t it worth it to set aside a few hours out of one day that will end up saving you hundreds, perhaps even thousands of dollars, on the energy you aren’t using? Give us a call to schedule your energy audit today.
Commercial Energy Audits
When you have an energy audit done for your business, it is essentially the same as a home energy audit, though the money and energy you can save on a business is significantly more. Because a business uses more electricity than a home, and because windows and doors may be larger and more plentiful in an office building, rather than a residence, the amount of savings you can enjoy on making a couple of simple tweaks is honestly mind-blowing.
When it comes to commercial energy audits, you can choose from one of three different types.
Walk-Through Analysis
A walk-through analysis is the quickest kind of energy audit. This is for that fast-paced business who just doesn’t have the time to shut down for a 3 to 4 hrs.-long audit. On a walk-through analysis, one of our auditors will literally walk through your business, noting the most obvious problems that you need to fix. You’ll still enjoy savings on both money and energy, but you might be able to save even more at another time with a more thorough analysis.
Energy Survey/Engineering Analysis
If you opt for an energy survey and engineering analysis, this is basically the “middle-of-the-road” audit – it’s not as thorough as the third of these audits, but it’s a bit more in-depth than the first. Here, our auditor will provide you with recommendations on which upgrades, repairs, and replacements should be your top priority. This is helpful if the changes you need to make are significant and will require you to set aside from funds in order to properly address them.
Detailed Analysis
The third of these audits are the most thorough, comprehensive, and detailed audit you can ask for. Here, we do a thorough analysis of your business, providing you with a detailed comparison of how much you may have to spend to get your business up to snuff versus how much you’ll eventually save in the long run by making these repairs and replacements. This is the audit you’ll want to opt for if you can spare a 3- to 4-hour window of time to let us explore your business more fully. Ambient Edge is the home energy audit company you can rely on to help you cut excess heating and cooling bills.
Home Energy Audits
During a home energy audit, one of our energy auditors will visit your home and analyze its drafts and leaks to determine where you can cut corners and what you can repair or replace to save money and energy on and in your home. Make sure to gather your last year’s energy bills, along with a list of those issues you know your home is experiencing to present to the auditor to assist him in his analysis.
The audit consists of an interview, wherein the auditor will ask you questions regarding your daily living to see where you use the most energy, as well as certain tests and assessments that allow the auditor to check your home’s energy usage. He will, for instance, ask you how warm you keep your home in the winter, and how cool in the summer, as well as how many people live in the home and how often they are present.
Just like a commercial audit, a comprehensive home energy audit can take between 3 to 4 hours to complete. Things like the size of your home and the kind of HVAC system you have installed will help determine the length of the audit.
