If your air conditioning system is still under warranty, the necessary repairs could be much less painless. However, unless you had a new central air conditioner installed in the past year or less, you may not remember if your AC unit is under warranty. And, if you’ve recently moved into a new home, you may not know when the air conditioning unit was purchased and if it is still under warranty.
If you’re having problems with your unit and are unsure if you have a remaining warranty on your air conditioner, call Ambient Edge. We may be able to look up information on any remaining warranty or find information on your AC unit.

Resources to Help You Find the Air Conditioner Warranty Information
If you remember when your air conditioning equipment was purchased, there’s a good chance you can fairly easily discover if it is still under warranty. Many manufacturers offer 5- or 10-year limited warranties on air conditioners. However, if your cooling equipment comes with a lifetime warranty, it likely only covers parts and not costs related to labor.
If you were the one to purchase the new air conditioner, you were almost certainly asked to register your equipment in order to “activate” your warranty. Registration can happen via an included mail-in card or online. If you did not register your new air conditioner purchase, it’s possible the warranty was voided.
- Look for the documents included with your central air conditioning purchase and installation. If you kept all the paperwork together, information on the warranty should be included.
- Some air conditioner manufacturers have warranty lookup resources on their websites or if you call their customer support line. When you call or lookup online, be sure to have your installation and information paperwork as you will likely need information, including the serial number from your AC unit.
- If Ambient Edge installed your new central air conditioner, we may be able to look up your warranty information. If you used a different installation company, contact them and ask if they are able to access your warranty information.
If You Moved into Your Home After the Air Conditioner Was Installed
Often, when you move into a new home, the previous homeowner will keep a collection of important manuals, purchase and installation information, and other vital paperwork. If they had the air conditioner installed during their tenure in the home, it’s highly likely information on the warranty will be in the files with other home equipment paperwork.
Unfortunately, if the previous owner did not register the purchase of their cooling equipment or the warranty does not transfer to any new owner of the property, you may be out of luck.
If you don’t have any or much information on the air conditioning unit or its installation, find the serial number on your air conditioning unit and make note of the model, call the company or distributor local to you and they may be able to help you determine if your unit is still under warranty.
So, for example, if you have a Trane brand, model XR14, contact your local Trane distributor, provide them with your serial number, and they may possibly be able to help.
Average Air Conditioner Warranty Terms
Warranty coverage varies by manufacturer, sometimes by model, and who installed your unit. However, the baseline standard for central air conditioner warranties covers one year for parts and five years for the coil and compressor.
What to Do When Your Warranty Has Expired
If you discover the warranty on your central air conditioner is expired, invalid, or did not transfer to you as a new homeowner, you can invest in a whole house warranty. There are many companies out there with a variety of coverage that ranges from basic HVAC, water heater, and plumbing to just about every operating system and appliance in the house.
If you’re looking for your air conditioner warranty information because you’re having a problem with your AC unit, researching and purchasing a whole house warranty won’t be very helpful. Call Ambient Edge and we can help diagnose your air conditioner issue and make repair recommendations based on urgency and budget.
